Inertia Balance

An Inertia Balance is used to measure the unknown inertial mass of an objection through the use of vibrations. Two metal trays are connected by stiff steel strips with a table clamp for the easy securing of the device to a table or laboratory bench. The apparatus is calibrated by determining the vibration frequency of objects with a known mass and can then be used to determine the mass of unknown objects. Three masses can be placed in one of the trays and the vibrations will be slower the greater the mass.
