Ripple Tank PM02
The Ripple Tank PM02 is an equipment set used for demonstrating and investigating the properties of waves, using the example of waves in water.
The unit can generate both circular and straight waves, and an external counter can be connected to the control unit to measure the frequency.
The Ripple Tank includes a drawer for storage of accessories, as well as carrying handles for easy portability. It comes complete with a 12V AC plug-in power supply, ready for use.
How Does the Ripple Tank Work?
The Ripple Tank is a shallow tank with a glass floor inside an aluminium frame, which is filled with water. The tank can be aligned so that it is horizontal via adjustable feet.
It is possible to generate both circular or straight waves in the tank by means of localised oscillations in air pressure. The frequency and amplitude of those waves can be set up using a control unit, whilst an external counter can be connected to the control unit in order to measure frequency.
An LED lighting system illuminates the ripple tank from above and takes the form of a stroboscope, for which both asynchronous and synchronous frequencies can be set. Underneath the tank, there is an inclined mirror which projects the waves onto a viewing screen.
