Tyndall's Bar Breaker

Tyndall's Bar Breaker is a U shaped clamping set-up with a metal rib and fastening screw. Used for demonstrating the linear expansion of metals on heating, the apparatus shows the tremendous forces which can be exerted in the process. The forces resulting from changes in length arising from heat or cold are sufficient to break a 10mm iron bolt. The set includes 10 cast-iron bolts for breaking in the course of the experiment.
