Volta's Pile on 3B Box

Constructed from series-connected galvanic cells, Volta's Pile on 3B Box is a replica of the Alessandro Volta's original apparatus designed to create a source of electricity. Alternating plates made from zinc and copper are stacked together and separated by a piece of felt. This felt is soaked in either water or acid to form an electrolyte, which in turn makes it possible for electricity to be conducted through the different layers. The voltage can then be measured between the plates at the ends.
