The Spare Sodium Lamp is a spare Polarimeter Lamp, for use with the Polarimeter. 

The Polarimeter is useful for the measurement of the rotation and the rotation direction of the polarisation plane of polarised light through optically active substances, as well as the determination of the concentration of liquids. Having a spare lamp is always useful and means that you will still be able to carry out experiments if something happens to the original lamp.
