Tube with 6 Induction Coils

The Tube with 6 Induction Coils is made from plastic tubing and has a bar magnet free-falling through it. Six identical coils are positioned equally along the tube and as the magnet falls, a voltage is generated. Gravity causes the magnet to fall faster and the voltage peaks are both increased in intensity and spaced closer together in reaction to this speed. The voltage characteristic can be plotted using either a conventional storage oscilloscope or with a computer interface.
